About Dr Ashford

Dr Gail Ashford is a Specialist Family Physician with a special interest in chronic conditions, and HIV in particular. She is passionate about prevention of mother to child transmission, care of pregnant women with HIV and their children . She has treated both Adults and children with HIV since 2003. She currently runs a private practice at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre with a multidisciplinary team, including inpatient and outpatient care. She has provided expertise at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital Obstetric ARV Clinic since its opening in 2004 and provides high level care to women with complicated pregnancies and advanced HIV or virological failure. She has developed a career in Family HIV care and has particular interests in Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT), safe conception and nutrition and metabolic complications of HAART
Gail is Deputy Chairperson of the South African Society of Specialist Family Physicians and an executive member of the Specialist Family Physicians in Private group

About Zamo

Zamo Mbele is a registered Clinical psychologist in Johannesburg, South Africa. Zamo has worked in both the private and public sector of South Africa’s mental health services, and he currently practices as a senior psychotherapist and is a senior supervisor at Tara H. Moross Hospital and at the WITS Donald Gordon Medical Centre.

He has presented and published internationally and locally, and has contributed opinions extensively through media collaborations. Zamo is the Vice-chairperson of the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG), and a director of the Ububele Education Trust.

He has also worked and consulted considerably in the not-for-profit and non-government space. Zamo is also an organisation consultant for cooperate wellness and for academic and educational institutions.

About Carmin

Carmin graduated as an Occupational Therapist from WITS University in 2007. In 2009 she completed her Postgraduate diploma in Hand therapy at the University of Pretoria.  Carmin has been working in the rehabilitation of Upper limb and neurological rehabilitation since 2008. Carmin started her career in the government sector working in the hand unit at Charlotte Maxeke Academic hospital working with both the Plastic and reconstructive surgery and orthopedic surgery departments.  She went on to become the chief hand therapist in the hand therapy department at CMJAH and consulted closely with the doctors at the hospital in the treatment of patients. In 2013 Carmin started her own private practice in Linden and Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre. Carmin is very passionate about sharing her clinical knowledge and has lectured on hand conditions to both doctors and fellow occupational therapist within the hand field. She has attended both national and international conferences and submitted articles to numerous publications. Carmin treated patients with neurological conditions in the government and private sector.
